Belt Tensioner question - 1ZZ

Post by 455SD »

Time to replace the Tensioner on my daughters '03. I am curious to hear from those who have used the Dayco replacements from Advance - how many miles have you gotten out of them? I can get one for 92.00 + tax & free shipping, or 114.00 shipped, for an OEM Toyota still-in-the-box one from E-Bay. I know I can get at least 100,000 out of OEM , and wondering if the replacement parts last that long. I like having the local store to deal with, should issues arise, which I won't get with the E-Bay unit.Sorry to ramble....and your input is welcome. Thanks

Nobody is running aftermarket serpentine belt tensioners - with higher mileage on the tensioner? I'm just trying to way the pro's and con's of dealing with local distributor, and e-bay for original equipment.Come on all you 1st Gen owners - I need your advice

Haven't replaced it on my Vibe yet, but I just did on a 2000 Corolla 1ZZ. Found a Goodyear tensioner and belt combo on Amazon for about 75.Sorry, only have about 1k on it so far, but the car has 150k, and I'd expect at least 100k out of the new tensioner.edit: went and looked up the email from the order, it was a little more. Payed 88 for the tensioner and gatorback belt, with free shipping.

When the pulley wears, it starts making a rattling noise or other says it sounds as a cup of marbles, due to the bearing drying out. The tensioner pulley itself can be replaced, they run about $10 from rockauto, amazon. The entire belt tensioner assy is around $75 for after market, which includes the pulley and tensioner piston.Recently I replaced the pulley on my '06 Matrix, it had 76K mil, it started making a slight dry bearing squeaky noise. I also replaced the serp belt with the goodyear gatorback belt.

Thanks guys! That's part of what's got me chasing myself in circles. The only thing I have that is going bad, is the hydraulic dampener. No rattle or squeak noise. Prices being somewhat equal - I'm leaning towards OEM part. I've read where there have been some issues with Dayco, Gates, Goodyear, with early bearing failures, even though Dayco and maybe Gates were OEM suppliers. I just don't want to spend the money/time more than once, and determining which has longest lifespan, with prices being somewhat equal. The plan is for my Vibes to go 300-400,000 miles 88.00 for tensioner and belt does sound enticing - I just don't know about the quality of Goodyears design.Decisions, decisions.........Thanks for your input. I appreciate it and welcome others who have seen high mileage, on aftermarket replacements.
