09 Fan (HVAC)

So, today I get in the car and go to turn up the fan speed; no a/c on and no recirculation on either. The fan would not come on, at all, it was like it was on 0. I kept twisting the knob back and forth trying to get it to come on and starting to freak since it was dead. So, I then turned both the a/c and the recirc on at the same time. Fan worked on all speeds. Turned them off, and it continued working. This is the first time this has happened, but I would like to know whats up. Anyone else having this issue.Also, when the fan is on 1 or 2 I can hear what sounds like a rattle or something, or like the fan is struggling to go, under the dash where the passengers feet would be. This doesn't happen ALL the time, but I do notice it occasionally. I don't know if this has to do with it. The car has 82,XXX miles on it, so its way out of warranty.

Maybe some debris got down in the fan and had it jammed up???

I don't guess anyone else has any issues with this? I think its about to happen again. This morning I was setting in my car with the heat full blast just passing the time waiting before I went into class, and it sounded like the fan was losing power. Sounds like it was surging up and down. No A/C on set to floor on setting 4. Recirculation was off and so was the defrost. This is driving me nuts. I will be ONE UNHAPPY camper if my fan quits on me this winter. (I HATE cold weather).
