rust on my vibe

Post by russ257 »

ok i got my vibe last monday when it showed up they said it has 800 miles on it but your warrenty starts today i looked and it seems my car was made in november and spent a winter in NY driven around and the bottum seems rusted my mufffler looks like crap and there is some corrosion on the bolts and various undercarrage parts. I am going to go to the dealership tomorrow and show this to them. My question is what is a resonable resolution. I think a new exhaust should be in there but how what else seems fair

Unfortunately, my legal understanding is when you accept delivery of the car, you essentially wave your right to complain about previous issues, in this case, a discolored or stained exhaust system. Mine has discoloring on the inside -- looks like a river of rust-colored metal, but I believe it is natural discoloration. If it works right, is not a true defect, and there is no safety issues at hand, your chances of getting resolution for cosmetic things are next to non-existent.

Any vehicle sitting around for that long will show some rust. My question would be how it has 800 miles on it. It is for all intensive purposes a used car. Did they sell it to you as a new car or was it a demo? Often a car from the factory will have at most a hundred or so miles on it. It should have a sticker on the pasenger rear window explaining why it has such high mileage on it, including quality control or emmision testing. If it is not a demo or wasn't driven at the factory, you were sold a used car. I would give the dealer a chance to make it right, then contact your local BBB or consumer agency.

I wasn't under the impression he get it new. I assumed he got it used?
