I have a 2004 Vibe with about 90,000 miles and a 5 speed transmission. I've recently been hearing a whirring click or rattle sound under certain circumstances. It seems to only occur in fourth or fifth gear when I'm giving it gas. I know these transmissions have bearing issues and I'm wondering if that is the cause.

It only occurs when you are loading the drive line under power. If you take it out of gear or feather the gas just right the noise will go away.Keep a close ear on the problem. It will get pretty loud before it actually goes. It will happen over a few thousand miles as well as it gets louder. If that time comes, a good shop can actually replace the bearing with the transmission in the car (will have to look since even most dealers and major shops have no idea how to fix it or won't). Other option is to get a junkyard transmission from a car a couple years newer to avoid the issue from re-occurring.
