to the northern vibe owners with cai's..a question

i just got of the phone with a friend who is the head overseer at the local chevy shop (gm /toyota mechanic for 25+ years)...i asked him about a cai system for my awd vib since the 1.8 is the same as prizm...he said not to because while they work great in the lower 48's the length and severity of climate here can cause icing on the throttle body plates in the wintertime, causing them to stick...anybody here run a cai in extreme cold..(-0 or below) for extended times? have you experienced any differculties?

The throttle body has engine coolant running through it to help warm it and prevent icing. May people in warmer climates disconnect and block off (or bypass) this to help cool the throttle body.However, anything is possible in extreme conditions.

I had a CAI in my Tundra for 2 years. Not a problem. Even running at -2F, there didn't seem to be any issues. Of course, Anchorage is not near as cold as Fairbanks in the winter. Does plugging in the block heater make a difference?
