Greetings!

Post by Chuck McKnight »

New to the forums, so just thought I'd say hi. I recently purchased a maroon 2005 Vibe base with 75,500 miles. I traded in my '97 Cavalier for it, and before that I had a '92 Sunbird convertible. I've always been more of a Pontiac fan, so I'm happy to again own one. I tend to be a DIY guy as much as possible, though I'm by no means a mechanic, so I'm sure I'll be asking y'all for some help from time to time.I'm absolutely loving the Vibe so far, and I look forward to getting to know you guys!

Well, it's a bit dark to take any pics at the moment, but here are a couple of shots from the cars.com ad. Don't know how much longer they'll still be up.

Very nice! Monotone Salsa And I for some reason (maybe I'm just a weirdo) the mirrors stand out.I like that they're painted. Mine are black. Not quite sure why some are black and some are painted.I prefer mine the way they are, as my "scheme" is black/white, but yours looks killer

Welcome! Don't worry about not being a mechanic, there are tons of DIY how-to's on here and if there isn't one posted, I'm pretty sure there is at least one person on here who has done it (whatever it is) and can give you advice. I am the least mechanically inclined person you can think of, and I am so nervous about messing things up, but this place has me poking around the car almost every spare minute!

Welcome!Excellent color choice as well. Maybe I should go look in my driveway and make sure mine is still there!Point of reference, step away from calling it "maroon" and call it what it is, as already mentioned the color is "Salsa".You will love this car. I too had a Sunfire, a convertible, but this is a superior machine in so many ways....if only the roof came off....hmmmmmmmDave

Thanks for the warm welcomes, everyone! Quote, originally posted by tpollauf »There's a sign on the hatch that tells me that this Vibe may have been well taken care of by it's previous ownerYeah, I'm hoping that was the case. It was a one owner car before I got it, and the Carfax seems to indicate that it was pretty well maintained. As for the Ichthys itself, I removed it. Though I must say it did feel a bit weird doing so. I am a Christian and I'm more than happy to say so, but I'm not personally convinced that a fish on my car is really the best way to demonstrate as much.Quote, originally posted by J_TO_ENVY »I'd love to see some pictures of the Cavalier and Sunbird as well, since I too am a former J-Body owner.I loved that Sunbird. It was a fantastically fun little car! I would have liked to keep it, but it got to the point where so much was broken or breaking that it just wasn't feasible to maintain anymore. Hopefully its new owner is treating it well. These are pictures I took to sell it, so you can see a lot of its problems. The rear windows would go down but not up. The starter started… sometimes. It heavily leaked engine coolant. And my mom backed into it with her minivan (thus the dent on the front left fender). All in all, though, still a great car! http://chuckmcknight.com/photos/sunbird/The Cavalier was pretty much a plain commuter car. It didn't even have power windows, power locks, or cruise control. And though it was newer and more expensive than the Sunbird, it had way less HP. I don't know that I ever took deliberate pictures of it, but I'll see if I can dig up some that included it.Quote, originally posted by djkeev »Point of reference, step away from calling it "maroon" and call it what it is, as already mentioned the color is "Salsa".Will do. I didn't know the official color name before this thread. Though maroon is pretty close.Quote, originally posted by djkeev »if only the roof came off....hmmmmmmmYeah, the sunroof is nice, but it's just not quite the same.

Congrats and welcomeI always liked the old J-Body's because of the no grill look. You mentioned coolant leak. I assume you had the 2.8 or 3.1 V6? They were notorious for coolant leaks even up until the 3400 series. Your leak was probably ether timing chain cover or intake gasket. I would fathom a guess it used some oil also? That engine dates back to the Citation and had a distributor cap but when they switched over to the DIS system they capped the hole that the distb.was in and that would cause a leak after a whileWelcome aboard

It was the 3.1, yes. I don't remember it going through oil, but then I might just not be remembering that. So many little things went wrong toward the end that it got hard to keep track of them all.
