the guy stripped the hold down rod thread and twisted off the clamps front bolt. Before he could closed the hood I see the mangled job and asked can you fix it right. He claimed the fasters were rusted, no so, no sign of rust. The manager and some other yo yo's came out, yea **** happens...Go to the dealer they will fix it! AND who is going to pay the dealer I asked. They wouldn't. Got in the car and told them unless they would fix their error I would stop payment on the check, than we want the battery back the mgr said. But I drove off and called the bank. This was at O'Reilly's auto part. Am I in the right to have done this?
Yes you should pay for the battery but you should also get some sort of payment for their screw up. That is messed up they didnt fix it. I broke the bolt head on the front and just drilled a hole through the old bolt loc and added a bolt/ nut there. You could get a new rear rod made at a hardware store too usually. Fix it yourself it will be cheap and easy. I got a quote when mine was broke and they wanted a lot for nothing....
Yikes. This is why I would never go to these auto parts places and have my car worked on. I know that some are no good, because I've known some LOL.Dealer may be more expensive, but do a much better job. Though, I've never had any problem with my local dealer(s).
The hold down kit for for the Vibe's are nothing special, this place should of had a universal battery hold down kit and they should of threw it in for no charge. I would call O'Reilly's Corp Office and file a complaint, they will more than likely make it right. And for the record, some auto parts stores do have competent people installing batteries.

It's so of all times the night before needed to go to the hospital ER and the batt was dead, original OEM batt 10 years old, it charged up alright but than the emergency had past 6 hours later. This is the first time something as simple as a batt change I passed. Besides Iam very old and weak. For some 60 yrs have fixed most simple problems like refurbishing brakes and installing McPearson struts, diesel injection pumps and injectors, had several Euro diesel cars. I thought to add this so you understand my position at that time.
No I didn't complain to their main office, btw the chinese batt cost only 96$at 60% markup they are only out of 38$ I sort of fixed it so the batt stays in place.
