Might be going crazy...

Post by vit »

Ever buy a car and it just doesn't feel right? That's how I feel about our 2011 Subaru Outback Premium. It's great in the snow, but that's about it. just doesn't feel right for a family vehicle. Will be looking at one of these this Saturday:

As in you are eating your chopped steak you decide you'd rather have the sirloin?

Hey I like minivans....I would rather drive a minivan over a SUV. SUVs always seemed like they have so much wasted space. We had a 97 Dodge Grand Caravan that lasted 200K. The new Sienna is pretty nice IMO.

I prefer the Nissan. Well, not for myself, I'm 20. BUT!.. If my MOM had to drive a van, I would prefer her to have the Nissan Quest I believe. I think they look really cool. OR you could go with the new Dodge Caravan R/T! VROOM! Well, looks fast

Yeah, felt that way the last 3-4 months with my 09 AWD Vibe with the PCM being replaced, taking 30 days for the part to come in, and 2 weeks later, the dash lights come on AGAIN after the fix... Minivans, cross overs, and SUVs are where the versatility/space is for sureWhen younger, the family's 1998 Mercury Villager was AWESOME

However, we hardly put any miles on the T&C as Mrs. is retired and I work out of a home office. Probably couldn't get much for it but only paid $15,600 plus tax new in July 2007 as it was end of model year and it had been sitting on the dealer's lot for over 6 months. Insurance is cheap. So it makes a good 2nd car.. May last me the rest of my life. My son has a Honda minivan but the Toyota Sienna gets the top rating from CU. We rented a 2011 T&C on a trip - was really impressed. A similar Dodge Grand Caravan can be bought for less than $25,000. My experience with Chrysler minivans going back to 1987 has been good. Another son is still driving my 1998 - has 200,000 miles.

Subaru is an odd car. You either LOVE it or you HATE it. Not many lukewarm owners that I've run across.I've driven, worked on and have used Subaru's over the years, not one of them did I actually like. I guess I'm the HATE guy who would never purchase one.Sometimes you really need to test drive a car to see if it fits you but car purchases are often based on immediate need or emotions.Dave

1 of the trucken co's I worked for had a couple Brats,Ihave a set of the rear seats on my deck. The reason for the seats in the bed was for shippen costs,it was listed as a station wagon, the rates were cheaper.

About 50 years ago, the US passed a 25 percent tariff on delivery vans imported from Europe to retaliate for high tariffs on U.S. chicken enacted by European countries. That tariff, known as the "chicken tax," remains today. It's target at the time was Volkswagen, but the chicken tax has tripped up Ford which builds its Transit Connect van in Turkey. So Ford imports it with rear seats to avoid the tariff and then strips out the seats in the US.It's not only you that might be going crazy, it is crazy that Congress has not repealed that tariff, and it is also crazy that it is so easy (though somewhat wasteful and ecologically unsound) to avoid the tariff via this procedure. I read that Ford recycles the materials in the rear seats.

It's done. The Outback got traded, we'll pick up the new Sienna next week. Kind of sad about the Subaru being gone, but very happy to get the van.
