Cold Air Intake & gas mileage?

Post by cptnsolo77 »

Ha anyone seen a increase in thier MPG when swapping in a CAI. Let me specify the CAI where the filter is behind the wheelwell N-O-T where the filter is still under the hood. I currently have a K&N drop in filter & im searching for increased MPG.

My mileage went down dramatically...because I could not keep my foot out of it. Once that wore off, no major MPG gains, i.e. picked up 1-2 mpgs on highway driving.

When I drove all highway miles I saw a large increase. Now that I am driving shorter trips to work and through the city I would say I see a smaller gain. But between TB spacer and CAI I am averaging 32-33 city.

I see a decent gain on my 09 on pure highway driving... when I go the speed limit. But around town I get worse. Off course that could be all the other mods combined with my solid lead foot.

I bought my 06 new, it now has 74k miles. I average between 27 and 33 all the time. If I drive 65mph I get 35mph. It has the origional air filter and I change oil every 4k and never miss. I also found Nexen 3000 tires are really nice. I put 2 sizes over to correct odometer. Wife and I really like this car.

When I had mine on, I couldn't stay out of it. The sound was too addictive But mine was a SRI

With a CAI or SRI you only see 1-2 mpg (if any) over a K&N drop in.

...the "usual" relationship is basically:• COLD air = more HP• WARM air = better fuel economy• HOT air = problems, especially under heavy loads, high speed, or with turbochargers.
...and the Devil said: "...yes, but it's a DRY heat!"

Like I said, I am happy with the CAI and TB spacer... On highway I def noticed the increase... Not as much in city driving... I did see on Myth Busters the other day that there can also be a slight MPG increase if you make your trips consist of right hand turns instead of lefts... (episode about delivery trucks only doing rights 3 rights = a left)
