Differential/Transaxle question

Post by bassplayaz06 »

Hey, does anyone here have a lot of play in the differential between the CV spline shaft and the gear it goes into? the wheel can turn a lot more than it should before the gear catches and turns the other wheel. this is causing a clanking noise when i start going or start moving in reverse. i'm doing a flush and drain on the transmission tomorrow, and i'm gonna take the right axle off and see if anything is wrong with it. any other clues?

How old are your drive axles? The differential is open so you can spin one wheel for eternity!

they're original. nothing in that area's been changed. and when it's in gear, you can feel when it catches on the gear. it's been getting more noticeable through time. the play is the movement before it makes the other wheel turn backwards.
