What tha heck is up with the doors not opening?

Post by ThunderRoad »

A used 2004- right after we got it in 2008, the rear passenger door could not be opened from the outside. Locked or unlocked didn't matter. Now, the driver's side rear is doing the same durn thing. You can get it open if you do it from the inside while pulling on the outside...AND now the front driver's door won't lock using the fob... What's the deal??? Any ideas?

Child locks. There should be a little switch on the inside of the door by the latch.Replace the battery in the FOB.

I don't think its the child lock, because if the child lock latch is on you should be able to open from outside but not from inside. Tunderroad is saying the opposite for the passenger rear door. I dont understand exactly what your saying for the drivers side rear door. DO you have to pull the handle from the inside and outside to get the door open? Or is it the door is tight that you need someone on the outside pulling as you push from the inside? Since the handle and locks are all mechanical the easiest thing to do is remove the rear door panels and check the links between the handle and the latch. I took my rear handle apart once to fix the nut that was making rust run down the door and remember it had to go together a certain way or else the handle wouldnt work but dont remember the exact way. (I knew i should have made a how to when i did it) The drivers door now, do all the other doors lock except the driver door? Does it lock if you use the power lock button inside the car? My first thought would be its a loose connection to the power lock or a bad ground on that door if its ground separate from the connector. If the inside power lock doesnt lock it either it could also be the lock solenoid

Thanks guys... 1: how does one get INTO the FOB to replace the battery?2: the drvs rear door CAN be opened if I flop the lock button back and forth a few times, then reach inside and pull the latch, while I am pulling on the outside door handle atr the same time..all of a sudden it will peartially open and then I can wiggle both handles again and it will open,. yes, it's weird...3: the passenger side front door continues to open/close-lock/unlock properly using the FOB. I can't tell about the back doors because neither of them can be opened from the outside... the driver's door just doesn't lock with the FOB...NOR does it lock using the inside locking button.(just tried this)I think something is busted...

To replace the batery in the FOB you just take off the key ring than than pry it apart with a flat screwdriver or knife. For the rear doors I'm not sure. The whole latch assembly may just be dirty and tight. Try lubricating it. Or take off the door panel and take a look that everything is moving smoothly. For the front it sound like its the driver lock solenoid. Or it could be a bad relay maybe.
