In search for better MPG, installed dynomax super turbo....

Post by yyamad1 »

I know changing the muffler isnt going to give me better MPG, well, maybe just 1%. My idea was to make a full belly pan for the rear and having the stock muffler in the center was making this difficult. As I am scared to have heat built up if the muffler is covered. Ive seen couple vibe threads on them at ecomodders but I opted for my own design. I bought a round super turbo that I mounted parallel to the car (see pic), this took some time, cutting and aligning, but all in all, it came together pretty nicely. Had to make couple hangers. I hope I can make a nice pan that will go from the sway bar straight back to the rear hitch and extend out few inches. anyways, thats another project...pics...

Is the sound to your liking? This is the same set up that one muffler shop recommended to me - I wish I had gone that route.Good luck with the belly pan!

well i have gutted cats still and stock resonator in place. sound is pretty good, its definitely not civic raspy noise but much more mellower. however there is a drown at cruising speeds. Even with all my sound insulation, I can hear when I get on the gas... However I can live with it, my main reason for doing this was to get a rear pan in place... When Im driving spirited, the tone of the exhaust is nice.I did finish the rear pan, have yet to fill all the holes and still haven't made a pan for the center of the car. Coast down has seemed to be improved, but it got so hot all the sudden, I drive with AC on 100% now. I did a drive to starved rock state park over the weekend, 200 miles total, with SW winds 20mph, temp 90, AC, i only logged 29 going out and 32.6 coming back, all cruised around 70mph... so time will tell if the rear pan really did help. here is a pic.

a pic from the bottom, kinda too dark. the sheet im using is alumalite, coroplast sandwitched between aluminum. very stiff and pretty light. Width is 4 ft so inches from inside of the tire on both sides, exhaust side I trimmed around the muffler. so i shouldnt have any heat build up issue. it is about 1 inch from the rear sway bar and extends beyond the hitch... Im still not sure where is the best place to trim. I read somewhere that it is good to have the pan extended slightly past the rear bumper... Ill ask the experienced people at ecomodders and gassavers on the positive side, I feel the cabin road noise has decreased, or maybe the drown of the exhaust makes it seem that way
