tranny pan torque=?

Post by jamesmetairie »

2003 base vibe. odometer reads about 118,000 miles. automatic transmission has not been serviced, never had a fluid change . slightly leaking transmission fluid around the back end of the pan. all the bolts seemed too loose. i tightened them all securely. question = should they be a specific torque?

in http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=33173 kevera uploaded a pdf that says which tranny is which, as http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...s.pdf(it says the base automatic tranny is type A246E)The PDF attached below gives torque specs for the various auto trannies, it says the oil pan bolt torque for the A246E is 5.3 N-m, or 48 in-lbsIf the tranny has a pan gasket, overtightening can cause some minor deformation of the pan around the bolts, making it really hard to have it not leak. I overtightened the engine oil pan on mine, and had to smith it back to flat Now, at 118K miles, you are overdue for a tranny fluid change. You could probably get by with a drain and refiill, but sinc ethe pan was leaking anyway, might as well drop the pan, clean it up really well and go for a good fresh seal.
