I just finished wiring the four-way hazard button to my garage door opener on my '09 Vibe. I did not modify the wiring harness in case I ever want to sell the car I could put it back to the factory setting. The actual remote now sits behind the glove compartment up near the dash.Just thought I'd share, I could take some pics if anyone is interested.I also cut the DRL since I'm going to the drive-in theater tonight, and I plan on wiring it to an on/off switch that I will put beside the traction control button.
Interesting mod. So If I read this correctly, when you push down on your hazzard /4-way flasher button, your garage remote is pushed thus opening the garage door. That part I like. Do you need to push it again in order to turn off the hazzards? Are they totally disconnected in lieu of the garage door opener taking precedence of the button? I like the idea BUT if your hazzards are now disconnected that probably isn't a wise move. Clarify this mod if you don't mind ......................................
Yes my hazards are now completely disconnected. And I modified the button so when you push it in it doesn't click and stay in the on position so you don't have to press it twice. This was an easy fix and it is reversible, basically there's a tiny piece of metal that holds the button in when pressed, you just need to pull it out of the hole that it's sitting in.
I plan on doing a similar mod with my garage door opener BUT not with the hazard button. I plan on creating new sun visors which will incorporate the gap/opening to house a typical garage door remote. I've done upholstering in my younger years and have a nice Pfaff 545 machine in my basement This way it will retain the look of an original visor BUT contain features as mentioned. I also would then provide additional "pockets" or "sleeves" to hold business cards, flash drives, CD's, whatever ... all overhead. It will be nice if/when I get around to it
