2006 Vibe Rear wheel/axle squeaking

Hi, I just bought a 2006 Vibe w/ 34K miles on it for my daughter's first car. Runs great, new breaks, new tires, new battery, etc. I think I'll love the car. After driving for a while if I park the car and then move in reverse with no pressure on the brakes, I get a high pitched squeak from the rear end. The squeak stops when moving forward and it doesn't last long in reverse. I had it checked out and the mechanic says that everything checks out, and thought that it could have something to do with the new pads seating to the rotor. It makes sense since it only happens after I return from a trip. Only had it for a week, so still learning about it. Any insight is welcome.

Thanks for the welcome and response. I'm going in today to get shims put on rear to help with alignment. I'm putting a little money in my daughter's car, but I only paid $9K for a good car with less than 35K miles on it. The car runs great and she is thrilled with it. Thanks again.

squeek from brakes comes from 2 things. Friction and the front pads shaking. My original front pads started this after 20k. My replacement pads started this same thing 10k after they were new. So brand new pads...I cannot say noise is normal. But the pads are only on the front on these. And that's where the noise is normal on mine ONLY in reverse and the pads are COLD. Once pads are warm...it is silent. If it's truly coming from the rear ...then have someone sit in the back with the window open when it happens and someone outside as well. If someone replaced the rear shoes...which is unheard of on such a low mileage car...there truly could be something "amiss". It is NOT normal for rear drum brakes to make any noise. In fact front brake replacement on such a low mileage car is rare on these. Unless the previous owner was a 2 footed driver. Always having one foot on the brake. My front pads were 1/2 worn @44k miles. But had to replace them because of a faulty rotor which I had been living with for years because Dealer refused to fix it free. So much for the "bumper to bumper" on my then new car that travels 2 miles to work and stops at 3 stop signs. Dealers suck! Yes, rotors can go bad simply due to poor manufacturing. Both pads and rotors have been fine on mine for almost 30k. Also , I do not know what you mean by "shims on the rear"?? rear brake shoes do not have shims.

Got it figured out (I think). The noise was actually in the front end. I pulled the front wheels and found that both calipers had worn seals, so I will be replacing those. I also discovered a torn CV boot. There is plenty of grease, and the joint seems fine, but I am going to replace the axle and cv since it is only $150. Oh, when talking about shims, I mean for alignment purposes.
