GT owners: What rpm @ 70mph?

Post by mntn-biker »

Hello GT owners! I have a base vibe that I dropped a 6 speed in (replacing the POS 5 speed when the notorious bearing went bad) and was wondering what rpm you are running @ 70mph? Also let me know what size wheel and rubber size you are running as well? I'm running the stock size wheels and rubber and am running 3200rpm. I don't recall my rpm's when I was in 5th gear with my 5 spd but I know my mpg has definately taken a hit. I was thinking of getting a set of larger diameter wheels to get my rpm's to come down on the highway.

with the 6 speed does your car feel like it has more power with that gear ratio?

Oh yeah I realize I will lose some of that if I go with a larger diameter wheel/tire combo. I can just add a supercharger....JK

i believe in 6th gear and at 70 mph the rpms are around 3100-3200 also. I have the stock 17s, so whatever tire size fits on that is the rubber i have. (215/45/17 i believe?)

yes, it's at 3200 at 70. 75 is about 3500 and 80 is about 3800. the ratio of 6th gear is 0.96:1 if i remember right. i have 18 inch rims with the stock outer diameter to keep the speedometer happy...
