Squealing Belt

Post by NascarXprt »

recently i had my serpentine belt replaced around the end of last year, and just a month ago, my sister noticed a weird rattling noise coming from the engine and now its gotten worse. i was able to narrow the noise down to the Serpentine belt area. and just last night it started to squeal and just a few minutes ago it (the belt) started to cause the car to start overheating.so any ideas on what might be causing this issue?

or get shop to try and repair their handy work at no cost to me or get a new mechanic shop... also forgot to add the temp needle reached up to H and squirting out radiator fluid, not sure how much was lost. tried turning the heater all the way up and on full blast but the heater went cool...

i hope it is a simple fix. i do not want to buy anything new, unless it is a belt... i hope this issue is resolvable. i hope it is what you stated Brian, though the belt should still be newish when i had them replace the belt back in the summer/fall.

Take the belt off and try to turn the water pump by hand. It might be seized which would cause all of the issued you have.

what the mileage on trix? How is the coolant level. Was coolant changed out per the mfg spec?Sounds like a water pump going bad or a bad tensioner pulley.

the vibe has 108,xxx miles on it, bought it with 95K on it and as for coolant levels, never checked. when i had my 04 vibe, never checked coolant levels for over 5 years, then again i had 3 different engines in there.. . but when the shop looked at it, they said it looks like there was no coolant in the radiator, then again a lot was lost early in the mornin.

Yea, I'd take the belt off and turn the various items by hand.Check the belt tensioner assembly.Once a belt has started to squeeeel a lot it is cooked.Only use a GatorBack belt.
