Quote, originally posted by ou.grizzly »The back n forth IDK Well, if you really must know:1) Dropped on Hotchkis springs originally. They weren't made for the AWD but they had the highest rear spring rate to support the AWD with the independent rear suspension. They worked for about a year. Then they got really, really rough. So, I went back to stock after that.2) Then I tried cut stock springs. Those worked well. Then I heard about the 1st design of Canuck Motorsports AWD Springs so I went back to stock with the intention of getting them.3) So, I tried the 1st design of the CM AWD springs for a little while and found that the rear was sagging. (Keithvibe had the same issue). So, again I went back to stock while a new design was being done.4) After a while, I bought the 2nd design CM AWD springs but didn't install them right away. I wanted to have a complete suspension assembly swap. So, I bought the KYB's and had to also get a set of used fronts and AWD rears so I would have the correct rear top hats. So, this is when I am at today.

Amazing how dropping the car made the snow on the road melt too! "Ya coulda just photochopped it and saved yourself a lot of time!" At least until the next GenVibe meet when everyone would know...Love the look!

LOVE the look of your vibe. I'm looking to do the same thing to my '03 AWD, but when talking to a shop in town he told me all these horror stories of only installing lowering springs. Struts bottoming out in the cylinder, alignment being too far out and incurable, etc... I know you put in new shocks too, but did you notice any problems when you installed lowering springs with your old shocks before? I bought the Canuck spring kit and I'm on a budget so I was hoping to pop those in and deal with struts in a few years when I've got the money.

The mechanic is half right. The suspention CAN bottom out. This is why you cut the bump stops. Doing his alows for the strut to travel more. But because it travels more it wears faster.
As for the alignment the mechanic is a namby bamby. There is NO problem getting the awd back in speck. The only issue some have had is the camber bolts feeze up and snap when an adjustment is tried. Which is not a lowering spring issue but more a area winter road issue.
If your struts are worn badly I have a set of awd struts forsale that has less then 10k on them.

Thanks for the offer but my struts only have around 100k on them and its 60% highway, they still feel real strong. I'm glad that the alignment will be alright, I thought he was being a pansy! Only a 2" drop shouldn't be TOO bad.
