Ride quality: Hard, firm, the way it should be!Wear: They've been on for about a week so I'll get back to you.Noise: After 4 months of studded tires I was plesantly surprised when I heard a song I liked on the stereo, decided to crank it and realized that it was blasting loud at only 1/2 volume!!!http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=42912

thanks. I found a set of 4 225/50/17 on craigslist for $100 with less than 3000 miles on them and picked them up today. They're obviously a little wider than the 215 stock size but look good in my opinion. We'll see how they work out. I was shocked at how unevenly worn out the bridgestone potenzas were when they got pulled off. No wonder they were so noisy on the hwy.

ok so I installed the 225/50/17 ventus vr4s and they seem to be pretty nice. My speedometer is now about 3 mph slow though. I didn't think that a wider tire would cause a difference since the profile is the same as the stock 215/50/17. Even with the stock tire size my speedo was about 1 - 1.5 mph slower than my GPS. Does anyone know if the slightly larger tire cause any problems?

That is a very common problem with Vibes it seems.

Does anyone know if the slightly larger tire cause any problems? The profile of the tire is also known as an aspect ratio - a ratio is a percent. I believe your 225/50-17 is 225mm at its widest, and the sidewall is 50% of that measurement - so, the sidewall measured from rim to the ground must be 112.5mm. The wider your tire gets the taller your sidewall gets, as long as the aspect ratio stays the same.I checked with this tire calculator:http://www.1010tires.com/TireS...ubmitIt says the difference is only 1.51% taller overall diameter, which doesn't even approach the 3% change that seems to be the limit that triggers brake warnings on these tire calculators. If your speedo was accurate before, your speed should now be 1 mph slower at an indicated 60 mph.I also tried to find out what "brake failure" really means but could not. Obviously, there are tons of lifted trucks with ABS running around out there on humongous swamper tires.

Mine are 205-50-17's and I find the stability and traction control don't like sharp corners at speed.... so now I keep those systems off all the time. I haven't had the ABS come on yet.
