2005 Vibe, Grey, AWD, Side Air Curtains, tint. non monsoon.Wife wanted Bluetooth and better sounding stereo.Ordered a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X695 and four 6.5" Pioneer TS-A1673R for all four doors through Crutchfeild.com. awesome price all adapters and harnesses came free. trouble came when I replaced the door speakers, the adapter plates are flat where the stock speakers have a raised plastic mount. I went ahead and installed them anyways, now the speakers are about an 1-1/2" behind the door panel speaker grill. Crutchfield said that was fine but I feel I'm getting sound bouncing around inside the doors and was wondering if I should foam around the speakers inside the door panel or gut the old speaker out of the stock mount and install new one on it. am I being too (removed) and that's a waste of time or am I right in trying to channel the sound into the car? Wife loves the Bluetooth but is a little disappointed with the sound (think a powered sub would fix that).
okay redid the speaker install yesterday, got rid of the flush mount Crutchfield brackets and modified the original stock speaker housings.attached pictures: Crutchfields adapters Gutted stock speaker from original mount, drilled 1/2" hole in side for Crutchfield wire harness adapter and pop riveted back on to door frame. side view showing hole for wiring harness and how it's raised to meet the door panel grill for a snug fit. Just used 1-1/4" drywall screws to attach speakers, STURDY! Then put weatherstrip around the speakers metal frame for an added snug seal. Rear mount plastic frame had to be modified to fit due to the Pioneers middle speakers raise up approx. 1/2". I cut a half inch off the mount height using a sawsall and a vice (wasn't hard, plastic is soft)Hope this helps, I noticed a BIG difference in sound quality getting the speakers up against the door panels.
