well i had a mechanic today tell me that my crap gas mileage might be due to a leaky intake manifold gasket and/or the throttle body gasket. well just a head up to those that purchased the updated intake gasket(the red one) i called the dealer and they told me that alot of those were faulty to where it would leak and run rich. they came out with a newer version which is on back order nationwide. i may be wrong on this but i called four dealerships here in san antonio and they all said the same. so hopefully if ya did change the gasket yours wont be one of the bad ones. ill be on stand by til mine gets in sometime this weekend or next week. thank all who helped me try to figure this out.
Wow am I getting this right? The ones on the cars were going bad, so new versions were made to fix the problem, and now those ones are no good?? So how do we know the difference to be sure I get this third one now? I'm going to need one soon. Probly get it done this summer
i believe the new part number ends in -22060. sorry i forgot the beginning. the old but newer than stock part number is somewhere in a post i read here pertaining to intake manifold gaskets. ill try to keep ya updated when i get mine in.
I could have used the Toyota part 17171-0D020. Dealer had one whihch I bought. Which was the latest as of December 2010, I think. I compared them and decided to use Felpro...which is black like the newest Toyota one and is also made in the USA, like Toyota's. I think Felpro is the source because Advance Auto had them in short supply too. They are $5 at Advance.. Mine has been good since doing it a few weeks ago. But now...it gave me a PO133 again. I cannot believe the gasket is bad this quick. I do not believe I did anything wrong. Starts god. But has the rough idle again when half warmed up. I did not change the throttle body gasket as Toyota says you should. removing the throttle body does make this easier and no coolant to drain. Any other ideas?..UPDATE only the Orange gasket is the latest. 17171-22060 Fits tighter

I have 2 bulletins that say not the O2 sensor. Rather it being the intake gasket. I have had this code at very low mileage. ANd the dealer was a jerk. Thus I do not go to hiim. And others on this site have replaced the O2 sensor with this code and nothing got better.
well, I put the ORANGE intake gasket in and throttle body gasket. Car runs pretty much the same during initial warm up. As soon as the car is moving the temp gauge up, but no longer on hi-idle from warm up...it's a back massager until it's fully warm. And let's not forget the PO133. The warmer the air temp...the less the massage. But now I am sure it's NOT the intake gasket. FYI, the temp gauge on these cars are NOT accurate. That 3 o'clock spot...is actually 140F. ANd just stops. Meaning the car is NOT fully up to temp. Throwing $130 at the O2 sensor may be my last resort. But I have not seen a single post of a PO133 solved with an O2 sensor. I truly am beginning to hate this car.

I also replaced my gasket w/the orange one in hopes of quelling a rough idle. I did get the P0133 and P0171 this winter, so I hope it takes care of those as well. Unfortunately it didn't solve my rough idle problem. I've also replaced the spark plugs and pcv valve and have an OCV filter ordered. Just for the hell of it I ordered an O2 sensor from Amazon (only $64) to see if that helps but I'm not holding my breath. If those last two don't do anything, I'm taking it back to the dealer to see if they can figure anything out. I took it to a Toyota dealer and the guy sat in the car and agreed it was rough and he commented it was also idling a bit low. I told him all I had done and said give it a week with the new gasket (just put it in last Sunday) to see if it settles down any. Said something about the computer needing to relearn if the old gasket had an air leak and the new one doesn't. So that's what I'm going to do. Sorry for rambling.
