Ive been searching all the forums trying to find what brand and weight of oil people are using. I am doing my first oil change on my wife's vibe and am getting conflicting info from gm and toyota. Gm uses a semi-synthetic 5w30 while toyota is using some 0w20. First of all I have never used anything but full synthetic in my cars and im wondering if that is an option for the Vibe. And what is the best weight to use? Thanks everyone!
Any quality brand 0w20 or 5w20. People tend to over think and overspend on the oil issue. Any name brand oil that meets the rating specs that are in your manual is fine. Change the oil according to the manufacturer specified intervals and it really doesn't matter what brand, synthetic or dino.If you have a 1.8L they take a filter that is kind of unique and not available everywhere. I buy my filters at the Toyota dealer since it's a Toyota engine.Welcome to the forum.

use 5w20 in the 2009-10 Vibes. And yes, there is a BIG difference in the paper filter you buy at Toyota versus at GM: over $7 less!!!!! Tell GM to stick it: get your filters at Toyota. They only charge $5.41 (part # 04152-yzza6)

And is the filter from Toyota any different than the one GM sells?I honestly don't know what GM puts in the engine but I do know that Toyota designed and built the engine. Toyota says either 5w20 or 0w20. The Toyota and GM filter are the same other than price.
