Replacement front bumper - 2007 Vibe - options?

Post by Serpentine »

Hi to all...love this site - love my Vibe (only 62k on it -- going for 200k).During the first snow here in the Northeast, I slid a bit (Blizzaks not yet installed!) - and had some minor front upper bumper damage. The bumper is slightly 'ripped' - and according to the body shop, needs to be replaced. So .. 3 questions:1) Does it indeed need to be replaced? Can these 'rips' not be repaired?2) If it must be replaced - best place / price for an OEM replacement?3) I must confess - I'm a BIG fan of the front-end of the 2003 / 2004. Am I totally insane to consider this opportunity to replace my 2007 front bumper to a 2004?Much thanks -- as always --Barry

1. I don't know. I'm guessing that repairing the rips and getting it to look decent and doing it in a way that would last would end up costing more than just replacing the part. Also if rips are visible on the outside, there could also be damage on the inside that could be harder to repair.2. I'm not sure where the best place to buy an OEM replacement would be, but if it were me, I'd probably try to find one from a a junkyard that was already the same color, that way I could replace it myself and not have to get anything repainted. An OEM one would probably come just primer colored. Also, with a new one, the pontiac arrowhead is a separate item. car-part.com has a nationwide search feature.3. you are not totally insane, and people do much crazier appearance mods to their cars. However, changing that might mean having to also purchase a number of things, all the little plastic grillinserts could be different, and may come separately.
