Cellphone WiFi question

Post by BurnOnyx08 »

So here it is. I have an all in one modem/router that my ISP has kindly rented me. On my laptop, PS3 and Wii the wireless reception is quite good. The problem is my cellphone gets terrible reception. It's only good when I'm standing in front of my panel in the basement where all my hardware is located. Is there a way to boost the reception on my cellphone or am I doomed to 3G browsing only?

You would have to root your phone to even begin thinking of making any changes.

If you still have Android 2.1 on your phone, try finding the 2.2 upgrade from your cell provider or samsung website which improves lots of features for the Android OS.There can be some other ways to boost or upgrade the antenna by flashing the radio firmware but this involves voiding the warranty AND it's not 100% garanteed this will work.

Thanks for the input, pretty sure Droid 2.2 is not compatible with my phone. Rooting may be my best best.

My wife has this phone and exactly the same problem (and more)... This phone has been replaced twice so far because of various problems and this one's acting up as well so the cell provider has bumped up her free upgrade to Feb 17 (I think) and she's going back to a Blackberry. The only type of phone she's (or me for that matter) never had problems with.

Also there are channels within that frequency, make sure your phone is compatible with your WiFi settings.Does it work with any other WiFi system? At a friends house? at a coffee Shop? At work? or is it pretty much bad for all WiFi's everywere?I will refrain from saying how much I like my iPhones right now. Dave

Rooting may be my best best.I'll just drop this here (2 bottom links):http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/in...Mod_6Note: CyanogenMod 6.1.1 is based on Android 2.2 (Froyo). But be very careful, this is not only a rooting process, this installs a full new OS over the old one. Do this at your own risk and if you don't care about your warranty! (might brick your phone if not done properly!)
