Since the Gawker (family of publications) commenter database was hacked and hundreds of thousands of email addresses and passwords divulged, it's a great idea to change your passwords for EVERYTHING you do online. Here's one news story about the hack -->
http://www.urlesque.com/2010/1...lickr/People are creatures of habit. It's likely that some people use the same username and password for a number of 'accounts', including email, online financial dealings, online store accounts, and games. If a wily identity thief can get your username and password for ONE account, (in this case WoW) it's likely that the same ID and password works elsewhere. So, no, there's probably no financial gain from getting someones WoW ID directly, INDIRECTLY, the identity thief might gain access to credit cards, bank accounts, email, and retirement account info. Here's an idea to create and remember fairly secure and unique passwords. Think of a street address other than your current one. Could be a place you once lived, a place you worked, the post office, the liquor store, a hotel you visited. Choose an address you remember easily! For example: 1234 South Washington Avenue, Columbus, OH 43206-3664 (This IS a real street address, according to the USPS.)Now shorten it and add some punctuation, so maybe you end up with: 1234-S.Wash_St.Col,O!3664Even if someone Googles you and somehow connects you to an address, it would still be hard to guess how you split it up and punctuated it.But remember NOTHING will ever completely safe from a determined thief with unlimited time and resources...
