snapped handbrake cable?

Post by bassplayaz06 »

so i replaced my warped rear rotors yesterday, and suddenly the right rear handbrake drags, and the left doesnt engage at all. i followed the service manual posted on here for adjusting them and it did nothing. i asked a guy at church that owned a celica, and he says my left cable has snapped. possibly?

Being a manual it's get's used more than an auto.. Either way, if it doesn't get used enough, it shouldn't get used because the cable rusts and well, there is only a little spring to make it return.. Do you use it a lot? If so, it's quite possible..Possible one of the nibs on the end of the cable slipped.. Dig in... If you pull the center console and look at the balance in there (between the 2 cables) it should be easy to see if one is pulled more than the other... either way, your going to have to dig into the brakes to see..

Yea I had one "stretch out" on a mini van. Had to have it replaced. Normally it isn't that big of a job it's just a matter of confirming it's bad and getting all linkages are set properly. Goodluck!

[QUOTE=bassplayaz06]so i replaced my warped rear rotors yesterday, and suddenly the right rear handbrake drags, and the left doesnt engage at all. QUOTE]I subscribe to cause and effect, and I'd assume that the cause was the work done on the rear brakes. Having the cable suddenly drastically stretch by the same day you reworked the brakes is too big of a coincidence. I recommend checking the one that drags to make sure you put it all back together correctly. Check the other one also, to make sure the parking brake cable is hooked up

Go back and double check your work.

i got it all fixed. just nor adjusted right. didnt snap. the grinding noise im hearing is the plate behind the brake assembly. it got bent at the top somehow and now the sides drag against the back of the inside rim of the rotor.
