OnStar lights and reactivation

Post by Caretaker »

This is in regards to the hands free phone capability in my 2009 Vibe: I never ordered OnStar once the 3 month trial was over. After about 5 months, the green light went out on the right side of the three push buttons. However, as you know, the three push buttons (phone, OnStar, Emergency) still remain green. Yesterday, I decided to push the phone button and the phone light came on the radio display with the audible: "OnStar Ready."I'm assuming this is the same for everyone else, and that if I pushed the OnStar button, an operator would come on and would then sign me up for service. If I wanted to use the OnStar service for hands free calling, would I need to sign up for full OnStar service or is that feature accessible for a seperate charge? Also, do you know if I can have my current Verizon cell phone number used for the in-car hands free service or do they have to issue me a new/seperate number?

I think you could replace your Onstar unit with a Bluestar onehttp://www.costartech.com/I think it's a drop-in replacement for Onstar, and allows for Bluetooth connectivity. There is a thread about someone who did it to their Vibe. I'll do a quick search.Quick edit: Here it is http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...18435

Thanks KITT. I'm guessing from reading all those old posts that OnStar does not have a phone only option. I see that one of the posters stated that the bluestar was expensive. Does that mean it is more expensive than just reactivating my OnStar?

Ever try emailing Onstar about a phone only option?

1. My 2009 Vibe OnStar was included for 12 months.2. When it came time for "renewal" they offered me a $12.95/month deal - no contract. I decided with all of the other money I spend on things I don't need, $12.95 a month was worth the peace of mind.
