A year and a half ago, my brother popped to have our Vibe tinted at his shop while we were home in PA. We never researched West Virginia tint laws beforehand, and just went for it. It's pretty dark, like 15% all the way around. As it turns out, WV law requires 35%. Last year, we had no problem getting it inspected and it's been at 15% ever since (we like it, too). Now, we go to get it inspected for the new year and it fails at 3 different shops. Too dark. Anyway, long story short, every method I've come across for removing tint tells you to "let it sit in a hot, sunny parking lot for a while first to loosen up the glue". Not happening in January in West Virginia. I don't have access to a heated garage or a hand-held steamer, but I do have access to a heat gun. My fear is that if it's freezing outside and the glass is cold and we put heat to it that something bad might happen. Either to the glass or the tint (like melting it down the glass or something). That may sound dumb, but I'd rather ask a dumb question and be certain than find out otherwise . Anyone ever use a heat gun to do this? Or have any other tips on removing tint in the cold? Thanks!

I have used this method before, it works but it's very tedious.Just be mindful of your defroster lines... http://www.tintcenter.com/articles/bt_removal.htmlAnd because you don't have a heated garage you will have to use the heat gun or you can ask a local tint shop how much to remove it.

Thanks! Luckily, I only need to do the two front windows to be legal, everything else should be fine to stay dark. Found a guy that will remove the old stuff and re-tint to legal standards for $100 tomorrow, so I'll just go the lazy route and let him take care of it Appreciate the link, just the same. I hate tint laws.

Had I known you only needed to remove the front. Razor blade and window cleaner is all you need.Get a corner started with the razor blade and once it's started, slowly rip it off. There will be pieces left behind. Keep using the razor blade to scrape it off. The glue will be left behind. To remove that spray the window with (ammonia window cleaner) and let it sit there for a min, Then take the razor and scrape it off.
