I recently added DVD/Nav to my '09 and am now considering adding a complete audio system.? #1 - I have JL Audio C2-650x for the doors. Does anyone know the max depth of the door speakers on the '09-'10 Vibes? Just wondering if I will have to build them out any.? #2 - I'm considering a JL Audio HD900/5 with a JL Audio 8w7. Are all JL authorized dealers required to sell at a set price? I see several online "deals" for these items, obviously not authorized dealers, but I would like to have a warranty due to the costs involved here. I have a few authorized dealers in the area, but figured I would ask here about set prices before I give the local shops a visit and try to deal.
Authorized and factory approved installers are always the best, but also most expensive... So you have to weigh you options... That is some SERIOUSLY expensive gear...
CarToys is listed by JL as an authorized retailer online and they have a very good price on the amp. Unfortunatly they don't seem to have the 8w7 sub Still can't find any info on the mounting depth for the doors, the fronts are what has me worried. EDIT: one car stereo fit guide I found has the '09 Matrix listed as a 3" depth on both the front and rear doors
Yeah, I can't really help you with depth, I install all my own gear, so it doesn't matter to me, I'll measure and make my own spacers to fit whatever I want anyway.. lol.. Current set-up uses a 1/2" plastic spacer coupled with a modified factory spacer (not my Vibe) w7 series stuff is SERIOUSLY overrated for the money... the amps are nice, but there are plenty of subs out there that could compete..
I don't have the patience or time I did 20 years ago, so I'm going for as simple of install as possible. To be honest though, I still haven't ruled out paying someone else to do it:). The plan is for the amp to go under the passenger seat and a cargo shade for the rear. Everything should stay fairly hidden except for the touch screen in the dash.
I need door speakers next for mine. I just did a rear sub/amp and it sounds so much better. Before I could barely run 20 volume on my HU now I can get close to 30 before the door speakers start distorting. Maybe the sub is just covering it up or using some of the power so the door speakers are getting less?? The cargo cover in back works very well for covering the sub. It even covered my 10 in a box. Anybody have a pic of the rear sub on a factory setup? Sorry, Back to your original question. Have you looked through the tutorial threads. It seems one is shallower than the other. It may be the front doors because of the windows.
I plan on arriving at the grave used up, worn out and yelling WOW what a ride !!
What did you end up getting the 900/5 for? Al&Eds Autosound do price matching and are 100% authorized to it's a pretty slick way of getting an awesome deal.. but it's already in your house..
Depth shouldn't be a problem with most any car audio driver. The thing to look out for is the diameter of the magnet, since the window is pretty close when rolled all the way down. A driver made like the one in Sublimewind's pic might interfere with the window's travel if you didn't use a spacer.
