Any common oil leaks on the belt side??

Post by vibe_guy »

I was rotating my tires and just happened to look and see oil all over the motor on the belt side. There's no puddle not even a drop on the floor. And since it's oil change time today as well I made sure to note that the oil level is completely full. I tried to see if I could work up the motor to the point where there is no oil, but it's getting on the belt. So wherever it's coming from it's being flung all over. So just thought I'd ask if there's any common oil leaks that I can fix on that side. Also is there anything that degreaser would hurt if I tried to clean up the motor to keep a better eye on it. I haven't noticed the belt slipping but I have one of those gator belts so I don't know if I'm proving they are better or what.

Off hand I would think crank pully or the AC compressor,Brake clean or any spray TBI cleaner should be ok to use. I've used both with no problems.

full strength simple green is also another good way to clean off some of the oil and it won't dry out the rubber components.I've used it from time to time.. not to often now but I have used it in the pastvalve cover could be leaking too, main front bearing is also another possible issue.

Quote, originally posted by keithvibe » main front bearing seal is also another possible issue.I had one of those go on an old 81 Toyota P/U and on my Twinstar. On the toyota it started as a very small weep, didn't drip any on the ground but you could see where it was smeared down by the wind on the front of the engine. It wept slightly for about a month then it just let go one day and started puking oil out. I caught it in time and got it replaced. On the Twinstar it all happened in one day. When I got to work there was a noticable drip but little oil loss on the dipstick. On the way home it blew out... big mess... fortunatly I brought an extra 2 bottles of oil from work. I stopped 3 times to top up the oil but made it home. Pulled her apart and replaced the $4 seal.Quote, originally posted by vibe_guy »So wherever it's coming from it's being flung all over. I don't know the routing of the oil inside the front of the engine but if the seal blows how long will it take before you lose enough oil to seize the engine.
