Post by ktt88 »

Hey guys, im a new member here. Just got in from putting on the snow tires and now that the alloys are inside for the winter I am considering repainting the rims due to paint starting to chip off.Just a few questions.1. Are vibe alloys actually painted? What im trying to get at is if i can use a paint stripper.2. What color do you guys think would look good? Thanks!

Best way to refinish them is to have them sand blasted and then have them powder coated. Rim colour should be dependent on the colour of your Vibe

Agreed. But as Grizz suggests, you are not giving us a full background with which to guide you. If you don't have the means to powder-coat, you might just use Dupli-Colors wheels paint, which is not by any stretch perfect, but is "resistant" to chipping. You will at some point need to do touch-ups on it, I'm sure. Nothing that comes out of a spray can is perfect. Also, you might take this opportunity to personalize your Vibe. e.g. inner spoke=car, or contrasting color. Outer spoke=graphite/silver or black, or some-such. It all depends on how far you want to go.What size/style wheels does you Vibe have? What color is you Vibe?

My only suggestion is that if you are going to spray paint your wheels, dont paint the lip of the rim. This way curb rash wont show as bad as if you painted the lip. It would look pretty crappy if you painted the entire wheel gun metal grey then to have silver/aluminum scratches from curb rash.If you prep the wheel properly & take your time painting ( multiple light coats ) you can get EXCELLENT results from a spray can!

PLEASE TAKE NOTE:If you paint, bondo, clean-up anything to do with your wheel, be sure to get them re-balanced. Even something as uneventful as paint can cause them to be out of balance very easily. So spend the few bucks and get them re-balanced when your done with whatever you decide to do.
