Started My Own Business Today!!!!

Post by GT_03 »

My elderly neighbor asked me to wash and wax her car for $20.00 So i did, well while i did it i had several other neighbors ask for the same treatment. So, now i'm going to make a little price list and pass out flyers to the neighorbood to drum up the new little business. I think could turn out to be a great side project to do. Well see what happens.

I'm doing them all by hand, and it's right next to my duplex. I already have 3 people lined up for the next few days.

For only twenty bucks??? You're crazy. I used to detail cars on the side after work or on my days off for people. It started with one or two cars, usually people I knew or co-workers and it ballooned to more cars than I could handle. But I was working 60-70 hours per week at the time and doing one or two cars per week on top the two of my own that I had at the time. A hand wash and wax was usually $35-$40 depending on the size of the car and what condition it was in. For the full treatment (which was what the vast majority of my customers wanted) was $90-$115. That included the three step system on the exterior, and for the interior, a full vaccum, spot treatment of carpeting where needed, steam cleaning of all carpeting and upolstry, or if the car had leather seats, the use of a special leather cleaner and a leather conditioner that had to be applied by hand like a lotion. For all that, I was very cheap compared to going rates locally for a full detail. Usually I see a full detail advertised on special around here for $110. That is exterior OR interior, but only one of them. Some detailers around here will arrange to pick up your car at your home or work and return it to you by the end of the day. It used to take me 8-10 hours to do one myself, but that was all by hand.Bottom line--you need to increase your prices a bit, my friend. But good luck with your new found side job. That little bit of extra cash comes in handy. After high school I used to cut lawns for two of my neighbors. That money paid for all my gas and most of my detailing products. What was left over helped pay for a stereo system for one of my cars. It might not seem like much every week, but it really does add up.
