Pls Help: Installing power locks

Post by Laserbeak43 »

Hello,I've just ordered these power locks from slickcar.com. There's a link that tells you how to do it here. In the manual, it says:"You can mount the module in one of 2 fashions. You can use tie straps and mount the module to a stiff wiring harness under the dash or tie strap it to a dash support brace. Make sure the connection is secure and tight. Our mounting recommendation is attaching to the either the firewall or kick panel area using the screw provided. "Where do i find the firewall and kick panel? I've been googling for images, but i can't seem to find any. Thanks,Laser

The firewall is the area directly down from the base of the windshield and goes vertically until it gets to the floor behind the dash. The kick panel is directly to the left of your left shoe when sitting in the drivers seat or directly to the right of your right shoe if in the passenger seat.
Vibe is gone and will be missed as I've gone country style

Your 2006 Vibe has cable style locks, and the Specs & Features tab for the kit you posted a link for says "Will not work on cable style door locks" You may need to buy four of these cable door lock adapters

Adding aftermarket power locks/keyless entry has been one of the things I've seriously thought about doing to the car but just never bothered with. The adapters work by cutting away a portion of the sleeve that the cable runs through, anchoring both ends of the cut sleeve, and then hooking up a clamp to the inner cable. The aftermarket lock solenoids then connect to that clamp, and push/pull the cable . You'll need one adapter for each door.

And to answer your original question, I would just zip tie the module to a wiring harness under the dash.

so in a bit of haste, I've ended up getting this:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...witem=I hope it isn't crap. The seller, who seems fairly nice, also gave me this:http://tintnelectronics.com/manuals/cablelocks.pdfhe says this might work without cable adapters. So i'll probably end up installing my alarm in front of auto-zone, just in case i need to buy the adapters(if they even have them)
