I took my 09 Vibe to the GM dealership to investigate a noise in the drivers side front end that sounded metal to metal that occured on rough roads moving less that 10 mph. They said the front swaybar links are bad and need to be replaced. I gave them the go ahead to replace them. The Vibe has 52,000 miles and is out of warranty. The cost to replace is $185.00 I hope this fixes the problem.
Do you have the stock steel wheels w/ wheel covers? Try taking the wheel covers off. Mine make a hellofa racket over rough roads oven though they were tight, so now they sit in the hall closet.Quote, originally posted by Zimm »i think you need to find a new shopYeah... take it somewhere else and get a second opinion!
I'm getting the rattle in the column too, but it is definitely not a "metal to metal" sound. I am guessing it is the same problem that 09GT had and they replaced his steering rack under warranty.

Yeah me too, car is 1.5yr old and has 28,000 klms on it... starting to hear the column rattle over any small bumps. When I put the snows on last week I shook everything I could in the front end, all of the links are tight. It almost sounds like it is coming from the interior column rather then down at the rack level. Gonna wait for it to become much more apparent however, if a tech doesn't hear it within about 30 seconds they have better things to do and you end up wasting your time. Still have plenty of time warranty wise so will keep and eye out for any new TSB's on the issue. Have not seen any as yet...
I had the steering rack replaced, and i did not notice any rattles for a day or too, maybe it was there and I tuned it out hoping it was corrected, but the rattle is back. I have let the dealer know, anyway I have been too busy to take it back in or even want to at this stage.I may just live with it or wait for a Toyota/GM fix for this, so it is defiantly is not the steering rack.
I don't even mind it (I hardly ever hear it due to the stereo) but just want to make sure it isn't an unsafe condition or that it is causing any worsening damage.Hope 03VibeDriver comes back to let us know if he had the steering column replaced or just what was the fix.
