60,000 mile maintenance advise

Post by zdkaiser »

My 2007 automatic transmission, base Vibe is approaching 60K miles. I was looking for helpful tips about what type of maintenance needs to be done. I have looked over the owner's manual, but was wondering if anyone else had any suggestions. Some notes:---I rotate the tires/change the oil every ~3-4K miles (the place I go to has free tire rotation with every oil change)---I just changed the engine air filter about 5K miles ago.---I just had new front rotors and brake pads installed about 3K miles ago.---I am going to order some in-cabin air filters soon to replace my current one.As far as service, I should have them:1. inspect the engine drive belts (and replace? How much for new belts?)2. inspect all fuel and brake lines3. flush coolant? is this needed?4. flush tranny fluid? (I had this drained/refilled at about 37K, I believe. I just checked it, and it is pretty clean, so I may leave it for another 10K). I will probably take it to Toyota to do a flush.5. new spark plugs needed?6. tune up needed?I am going to get this done in one swoop and am also wondering the cost. I know the GM dealer is going to try to stick it to me.thanks for the help/advice. i'm a newb.

Really nothing to tune up.I'd think about checking the VVT filter and get it replaced or cleaned. It is a little known part of the engine that can alter the running of the car and fuel mileage if not operating properly.DO NOT FLUSH THE TRANS OIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Replace it, either by drain plug or an exchange machine that is filled with the proper Toyota trans fluid.Coolant flush, not a bad ideaI'd consider brake fluid replacement. If it has any signs of color from the beige clear, it is absorbing moisture and corroding the system.Belts, hoses, for sure look at them. I wouldn't worry about the hoses at this age and mileage and even the belt is probably ok but have it looked at.Careful pulling the cabin air filter, after 60,000 miles it probably has leaves and crud on top of it. This stuff does not come out with the filter but gets scraped off of the top as you pull it out (what genius designed this!?!?!) IF a bigger piece falls inside, it can get into the blower fan and make all sorts of noises and vibrations (I know, one single leaf made a high pitched whine driving us nuts!! I pulled the blower fan and took it out)Pulling the fan motor isn't hard or overly labor intensive, just a pain in the (removed) to have to do it.Dave
