Jack Handle

Post by 09vGT »

This weekend my dad was going to show me how to change a flat on my car. So we get all of the stuff out, jack, spare tire, but the jack handle is not to be found. Anyone know where I can get one from? I looked under all the paneling to make sure that it hadn't just been dropped or something.. but its gone!

Go to the auto wreckers... they have thousands of unused unwanted spare tire jacks for dirt cheap!!! I'm sure they could be convinced to part with a rod for a few $.....

I knew the basic idea of how to do it, but my first time changing a tire was when I ran over something in the road that went through the tire and wheel .Also, be glad you discovered the missing jack handle now before needing it on the side of the road .I would tell you to go to the dealer, but I know you're out of warranty already .

Probably.. But I'm not sure.. Since that would be missing too.. The only thing I have is the tire and jack. All the rest of the slots are empty.

There's the lug wrench and a seperate handle for the jack (that is a major PITA to use). Here's a few pictures for reference:The handle for the jack is obviously the longer skinnier bar. I suppose since you're missing the lug wrench and jack handle, that you also don't have the handy tie-down straps? I actually used them to tie down the 18" wheel and tire when I had my "accident" and had to put the spare on. Also, a little FYI for you, be sure to check the pressure on the spare periodically so it's not low or worse yet, flat, if/when you need it. Ever since my "accident" I have become super (removed) about checking the pressure on the spare. It should be 60 PSI .

Just in case this happens to anyone else . . .

I changed a flat tire sometime back, then the jack/handle/wrench were supposedly restowed at the tire shop after they repaired the flat.

The next time it happened I could only find the jack - not the handle or the lug wrench. I went back and fought with the shop, thought about ordering new ones online, etc.

I was so close to doing that today, but stumbled across this site as I was trying to decide what to order . . .

The picture above with the perfect storage locations for those two parts made me realize I had seen nothing like that in my car.

The key: THERE IS A CARDBOARD COVER ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE SPARE that covers up those two parts. So if you think they are missing, they probably are really there, just underneath that little cardboard cover!

Hope this helps someone!

I thought the same thing when i bought my 10 GT. I searched everywhere for the wrench and jack handle at the selling dealer (a Ford dealer), and could not find it. The salesman then gave me an extra jack, handle & wrench he had from another used car just so I would have one. He wanted to get rid of it anyway, he said. Lo and behold, I found it the next day when I was taking the car apart to clean up behind and reattach all the hatch plastic parts the prior owner took apart. I felt stupid, but at least I did have them!

I just had a flat on my '10 Vibe, and both the tire wrench and jack handle were missing. Previous owner says he had never used it?

That sucks. Check out car-part.com. You may be able to score a lug wrench and jack handle at a junkyard near you.
