I have an '05 base model Vibe with about 87,000 miles. The only driveability problem I seem to be having is that when I try to accelerate quickly (yes I know this is a bad thing to do and it kills your mpg) the engine hesitates, revs, then drops off, revs, etc until I get up to speed. Anyone ever gotten the P2238 code (Heated Oxygen Sensor)? Possible causes listed: HO2S signal is open, or shorted to ground, HO2S low reference circuit is open or shorted to ground, HO2S has failed, PCM has failed. I'm also getting the dreaded P0420. I'm assuming that my best bet is to replace the whole cat. But since money is especially tight since I just replaced the fuel pump assembly, I wanted to check if anyone else has some "cheaper" solutions for me to try. What are the chances that replacing the downstream O2 sensor would solve the problem?
