It seems that I need to replace my positive cable and according to the dealer, my only choices are to replace the entire wiring harness or take it to a shop and have them splice a new one in. I called some local parts stores and the best they can do is a new battery terminal. Any other ideas out there?
What's wrong with the cable? Figuring out how to fix it depends on what's wrong with it. If you have to replace the cable, splicing in a new one is not difficult if you have some experience with wires, but you may not have to cross that bridge if it is just the terminal connector that is bad or something similar. Please post a little more information.
Unfortunately the terminal is growing the green ludge of death and from what I am told, once that starts there is no stopping it. The terminal is nearly broken off and the end of the cable that I can see is also green. I guess I am in for an adventure with this one.
Not really. The green grunge is acid and you need to neutralize it in a baking soda and water solution. It will foam and leave your wire clean.Cut off the old end and get a QUALITY replacement end. They cost more but are much better than the cheap squeeze the wire types.Use something along these lines.....http://www.wiringproducts.com/....htmlor like this lead free replacement that I've seen as OEM on Toyota'shttp://www.wiringproducts.com/....htmlInstall the end on the clean wire, clean the battery posts and install the clamp and you are good to go for just a little money. If you want there are spray and brush on wire protectors for keeping the acid build up off of the ends.Run quickly from any mechanic who wants to sell you a wiring harness for a bad battery cable end!!!!!!Dave
I had this problem, fixed it by taking the strain off of the cable. Caused the battery to weep gases and interact with the cable. Put a good layer of post spray on after replacing the new connector.
