I've had a similar issue with my '06 since it was new. I have a suspicion it's related to the electronic throttle, as there is always a slight "gap" between the top of the pedal and where it actually responds. The top 1/4" or so of pedal depression causes no engine response. It's like a loose throttle cable -- without the cable. However, it does sometimes seem as if slightly depressing the gas peddle causes a slight dip in RPMs before accelerating. I don't know if this is the same thing you are experiencing, but I've just gotten used to it. Though I love my Vibe, I've never really liked the throttle-by-wire pedal feel of any of the newer cars.
