Where would I find the high temp paint that could be used to paint my engine cover? Do that have it at Autozone? Also, does anyone have any suggestions on what brand of paint I should use?
You can get it at Pep Boys for sure (that's where I got mine), but AutoZone has it too, I'm sure.I used Plasti-Kote, and I think Nova did too...he used the enamel, though, and I used an anodized-look paint. I think he got better results than I did. Just look for any paint rated for engine use, or high temperature coverage.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
By the way bckersey:In case you don't see my other post, when you buy paint, DO NOT buy Plasti-Kote's "ANODIZIT" paints. They're horrible! They flake off, no matter how much time you give it to dry, and how many coats you put on.Save yourself $5 a can. Get something better, like the enamel. That's what I'm gonna get.

I got mine from Napa...it's high temp paint designed for engine blocks, so you know it's not going to be affected by the heat.Cost less than $4 a can...I think...
I have been looking for threads on this topic and this is all I have found. I was wondering about info on how to paint the cover. What I need to do, and what I shouldn't do. I don't want to hurt my engine at all, but I personally think a little paint under the hood is a very cheep way to add some personality, and flare to my Vibe. For example, can I drive it whithout the cover on for a few days or will that risk hurting my hood from the heat? Also if any one knows of any other threads on the this topic, let me know..... Thanks
If you do this mod... its cheap and looks good.I bought some high heat engine paint, and some regular primer.you really dont need to sand anything... i didnt.you can drive without the engine cover for a while. no harm. just get everything dirty!i lost my clips to the cover and had to drive in rain without it... but everything was ok. just dirty. so its good mod for cheap.if you have anymore ??? just ask!

ok, i'm pretty sure i posted about painting the engine cover a while ago. i did mine on the VGT twice. the first time, it peeled very badly. i used a high heat paint, but didn't do a good job with it. looked like crap after one winter. then redid it and it held up much better. i'll try and find the info, but i think my old cardomain site had a page and instructions on what i did. some people just washed and painted it, but i recommend doing it right so it won't peel and look like crap after a long winter.
Well when i redo mine i know what to do exactly to make it look really nice! Thanks for the info. hope!

Wow, thank you for that, you can't even imagine how much it helped. Now I have a good idea of what I want. I do have one question, how well does the Decal handle the heat? I imagine pretty good, but I was thinking of doing it, but just painting a light coat and then using a hand made decal over the VVT-i, and then painting over that and remove the decal after the paint. So that would give me the two tone look, but if Grafxwerks will hold up to the heat, that would be WAY easier.... thank you agian for the help though. I will work on it this weekend, and get some pictures for you.....By the way, Your vibe is looking good, there is alot of love there....
That decal should... and ive seen tons of them on here that have had it on for a while... biggest problem after all done... is keeping it clean If you were talkin about my vibe. I try to make mine my own. and i love modding a car. even if its just cosmetics!

wow, iinan, with the exception of your exhaust, your mod list was almost identical to mine. and the decals were no problem. the heat kept them on pretty well.
