Hi everyone, my friends call me "G" so I hope you will too. I have an '08 base Vibe with no performance upgrades yet. Inside, I have upgraded the sound system just a bit.I am hoping to use this forum to learn about performance upgrades and especially the parts' availability. I'm more of an old school car guy; not really knowledgeable about newer cars with computers and such. For instance, because it was all engine, my '73 Ford F-100 Explorer was a cinch to work on. It had a double barrel carburetor and an air filter shaped like a doughnut too! While I know I am way behind in the times, it is fun for me when I learn of these new upgrades and systems for engines. Enough blabbering! Here is a pic of my Base V!The first improvement I want to put on this puppy is a CAI, followed by intake manifold and exhaust upgrades. Who knows what will follow...

Welcome! There's a (Ford) radio commercial with Mike Rowe where he talks about looking under the hood to replenish windshield washer fluid, and says somebody replaced his engine with something out of a space ship. Yeah, old school V-8's in an engine bay the size of Texas definitely belong to the 'olden days'. But thanks to computers and variable valve timing, the engine in the Vibe makes about as many horsepower as my first two 4-cyl cars combined, and gets better gas mileage than either one.
My 2003 Vibe Base Auto 2-tone Salsa "SalsaWagon" was built in May 2002. I acquired it in Feb 2004/Traded it in on a 2016 Honda HR-V in Feb 2018.

Who knows what will follow...Welcomeas for your improvements, a cai will be a nice start. There aren't any aftermarket intake manifolds for our cars, but you can certainly upgrade the exhaust.Just so you know you may want to check out http://www.matrixowners.com, http://www.newcelica.org and http://www.9thgencorolla.com as they all share the same platform for engine, trans ext...

Thank you all for the warm welcomes!star_deciever: i wish i still had my F-100. had to sell it and get something more economical. Thanks for the links keithvibe. i will be using them, I'm sure. As far as the intake manifolds, I believe I have found one but I'm not sure of the fit as it is only listed for a Matrix just as many other aftermarket parts are...not listed for the Vibe but listed for the Matrix. One of the many things I'm not sure about but hope to remedy from this forum and the ones you have showed me.Here is a link to what has been found: just click here...the addy is too long. And thank you BlueCrush for the link in your sig! I will be viewing it often.jake75, thanks for the compliment. I went into the dealership wanting the Silver but as soon as the greasy salesman drove the Stealth up for the test drive, I quickly changed my mind.kostby, I have seen that commercial and can relate to ole' Mike Rowe...I feel lost these days when it comes to working on cars. I suppose it's time to learn the stuff I don't know!Again, thanks for the welcome words and also for the links. I spent a good part of my afternoon at work drooling over the pics in your Genvibe Garages...and I've only viewed the ones from this thread!!
That is your stock IM.If you really wanted to go custom you can mount a 2zz intake manifold to your 1zz with the help of my buddy's IM spacer. You can buy it directly from him. you would need to get your own 2zz IM and TB which can be a challenge if your DBW. It's yet to been dyno'ed.Start at this post and work your way to the endhttp://matrixowners.com/index....86651

I wasn't too sure if that was the case...the description makes it sound like an upgrade."Provides better fuel mileage and emission level control; Features reinforced aluminum coolant crossover that means there will be no repeat failure due to corrosion and vibration, integrated silicone gasket that means no separate gasket to deal with and fewer leak paths at cylinder heads and throttle body, and reinforced coolant passages that means stronger protection against recurring leaks; It also has thicker intake walls and better fillet design to prevent warping of the manifold at the gasket mounting surfaces; Designed to eliminate the double sided throttle body gasket; With Dorman's limited lifetime warranty."Again, thanks for the link! This is exactly the type of advice I was hoping to get out of this wonderful forum! One question down, 999 to go.
