No sound from stereo, it's getting power. New speaker install no help

I'm a newbie to this forum but this problem has been plaguing me for quite awhile. My stock stereo in my 2003 vibe is obviously getting power. The guys at Best Buy who checked it out for me yesterday said the unit works. Apparently, my speakers were blown. My father and I are attempting to remedy that problem today. Speakers were blown in the front doors of the car. He hooked the wires up to the new speaker. I turned on the car and radio but there was no sound. I have checked the amp fuse (and radio one just in case) and they look good. Could the factory amp be bad? We're sort of at a loss here. He's putting the new speakers in anyway but I don't know what direction to go in next. Seems like the so-called "pros" haven't been able to make the correct suggestion. Sorry if this needs more info to diagnose the problem. If you need further info, just ask. Any assistance at all would be appreciated!
