DIY cruise control switch installation for latter year '05 thru '08 Vibe

I ran across a thread here from a few years ago on installing the cruise control stalk/switch in CC non-equipped Vibes for fully functional cruise control at a very low price. I'm waiting for a switch to arrive from amazon.com ($35+free shipping) and while looking around on the web this am found this thread at toyotanation.com - http://www.toyotanation.com/fo...99894 - with detailed color pictures and a very clear narrative about installation. I especially like the addition of drilling a round hole and using a rubber grommet for a much more "finished" look! This is, of course, for those very few owners here who haven't yet done this mod. When I did mine I didn't know I had to transfer the green wire over for the horn to work, so I ended up doing it twice. Mine wouldn't come out of the stock connector, so I had to cut the connector apart, being careful not to damage the metal contact pin or the wire. I used a wood cutting bit for my hole. I believe it was a one inch bit. It made a nice neat hole. I just touched up the edges with fine sandpaper.

I did this installation this morning - it took 1 hr and 5 minutes with about 30 minutes of that devoted to getting the hole just right. I tapped the holes in the steering column to use a 10-32 (finer threads are best for preventing cracking the mounting tabs) stainless socket head 1/2" long cap screw with a star washer for proper clearance. I also used loc-tite on the cap screw. I went with the round hole where the switch emerges from the steering column shroud and a grommet to finish off the edge of the hole for the switch. I used a 1 1/16" grommet with a 7/8" inside diameter as the recommended 3/4" ID grommet was just too tight and narrow. It looks like a factory installation and started working within a block of driving the car. BTW - I did this in a 2006 Vibe using the ACDELCO D1919E Cruise Control Switch part ordered from amazon for $34.52 + free shipping. Thanks to all here who pioneered this installation and provided detailed instructions on how to do so - you're the best!EDIT - UPDATE: I forgot to check the horn function after finishing the installation earlier today. I live in a small town and rarely use the horn so sure enough when I went to use the horn tonight I found that it did not work!? Apparently I did something wrong (or so it would seem) in reinstalling the green horn ground wire?!?.......although I can't imagine what it would be. Anyway, I'll take the airbag off tomorrow and see what's up.............maybe a corroded connector at either end of the green wire?? EDIT UPDATE - The ground wire had a kink in it! Everything works now.
