My '09 Vibe GT has folding outside mirrors! The local gas station car wash folded one of them in. (Won't be going back there). Only took 2 years to figure this out

And I just discovered the other day that they fold both ways ! They fold in with the glass facing the door and they fold the other way with the back of the mirror housing facing the door/fender.

I've had them folded in on the ferry to the island. ....and had them folded back in a parking lot I'm not overly interested in seeing how far they fold back though...

That is when break away / folding mirrors appeared, that is when hood ornament (remember the mercedes star, the lincoln emblem, the oldsmobile emblem and many others sat up on the front of the hood) became break away, most often a simple spring arrangement.Notice how exterior door handles no longer protrude from the car and items like bumpers and side lights are flush with the body?
