GenVibe Cards

Post by houseofbugs »

How many of you have occasionally seen nice looking Vibes out there that are parked that you would like to possibly get them on the forums? Well this other Chicago Car club (ChicagoShift.com) gave me an idea. Make business cards that say something like "You have been selected to join GenVibe." and have the forum information on them and a spot for whoever left the card to leave their forum name on.I am going to make some designs and probably have them printed up at VistaPrint.com.Hope everyone likes the idea!~Tim

Yeah, I made some up 5 years ago. Used them all up, and don't think any of them joined up.

I have put notes on a few cars and/or have spoken to owners directly, mostly Mazdas, but have not seen a lot of response from this type of campaign. People are either looking for these places (like me,) or they are completely disinterested it seems. We are a special breed, my friends. Be grateful that we exist at all. I know I am!

On a second note, I find it interesting and hope you do too, that of all the people in my family, close and extended, I am the only one that caught the car bug. Some of my first memories in life are of my older brother's first car... a 1951 Ford convertible... and to this day, I remember it much, MUCH better than he does!! I was 5 yrs old then. He was 17.

Just the other day I spotted a 2003 Salsa in a customer parking lot of mine and placed one of my Honeywell business cards on the door glad (where the owner would EASILY see it) with info on this great forum. Then the owner (female 50's) came out as I was getting tools out of my van. She looked at the card as I approached her. We ended up talking for a good 10 minutes and she was interested in the site. She had several questions about issues with her Vibe and I assured her that if she joined this forum her questions would be answered. So if we get a new member from Adrian, Mi driving a 2003 Salsa, then that's from my tip Get some printed and bring them to the Indy meet Also, I thing the message should read "Your Vibe has been noticed, and ...... " instead of "selected". This seems more appropriate for the given situation. The car NOT it's owner got noticed, plus then it wouldn't sound like a credit card offer or any other type of infomercial solicitation

I def. love this idea. And if you bring some to the Indy meet, they will get distributed far and wide, judging on the states that will be represented!

I have talked to a few people in person about the other website I am on (The J-Body Organization) and they have actually joined, however, I have yet to see any modified Vibes around me. It's all older people so I probably wouldn't bother putting cards on their Vibes. If anything, I think talking to people in person about their Vibes would be better like tpollauf did. Than you could actually explain to them that they could get information on problems they may be experiencing with their Vibe, etc. That's the kind of stuff that would probably interest most people. Just my $.02 though.

We (collectively) have designed multiple flyers in the past. I did some 2/page on 8.5 x 11 paper. I think I passed out about 25 or so, didn't see any of them join though

Or maybe this? It's an image Blanco did for me. I erased the crown off the hood so it would seem less personal and I made it .png so it would be easier to work with

Surprisingly that's the majority of what I see in Vibes here in NW Ohio. I'd still place a card on the window & see where it goes. You could always have them printed on BOTH sides. One with normal print for "younger " eyes to see, then the other side with LARGE print

Get rid of the drop shadow on the title text- combining the drop shadow with a hard-to-read font makes it even harder to read. It'll look good without it.

I was able to figure out what it said based on context, and it might be trendy/artistic, whatever, but make it easy to read first, then pretty second. I'd probably use the Impact font, it's the closest common font to the vibe logo on the car, likely the basis for the genvibe logo

Its funky and I like funky, but if you can't read it, it won't work.

Ok Ok, I do agree with all that, just didn't want to crush ALL of his design spirits I actually don't think that the graffiti-style fonts are a good idea for this particular "car club"... at least up here in urban areas you usually have a different connotation with graffiti fonts... but I know Psycho likes to use them on all his design stuff

No, no....I'm totally open to criticism, so long as it's not out of spite. That's the reason I posted it....to get feedback. So I'll try another font and see how it works and lose the drop shadow

I've seen several Vibe's in my area, including two almost identical twins to my Vibe. One was just like mine, '03 style bumper, moon roof, cross bars, monotone silver, only difference I saw was abuse on the bumper, and steelies, and mine has alloys. The other was a post '05 Vibe, which was almost like mine, but no cross bars and steelies too.
