If you were a police officer...

Post by waveresponder »

If you were a police officer what would you enjoy pulling people over for?personally i would enjoy writing tickets for..Not coming to a complete stop. Not making sure all occupants are wearing a seatbelt. Not driving with their headlights when they should be.Driving with parking lights on.Not stopping before the white line at intersections/traffic lights/stop signsDriving while talking on cell phones. Not using turn signals, especially during lane changes. Not giving proper following distance.cigarette butts out the window (the world is not your ashtray) thanks DeClerq

'hollywood stops' are never ok in anyone's book. Not making sure all occupants are wearing a seatbelt. ticket. its the law, dammit. Not driving with their headlights when they should be. you mean at nite? ticket. there's always something shady when you're driving around at night with no lights Driving with parking lights on. again... at nite? ticket. Not stopping before the white line at intersections/traffic lights/stop signs if there's pedestrians, ticket. Driving while talking on cell phones. TICKET!!!!!!! its amazing the amount of people i see in chicago driving around with their phone on their ear.and its already law. also texting. TICKET, DAMMIT. then once they're pulled over, i'd look for other stuff to nail them on. Not using turn signals, especially during lane changes. ticket, although, i've done this myself. and on the triumph too. shame on me. Not giving proper following distance. if it causes an accident, ticket. but may be hard to enforce if you're driving aruond and notice it. then again, in this great city, too much emphasis is put on writing tickets as a source of revenue, when the cops should be out doing other things. like fighting crime.

Ahh.. I never come to a complete stop.. ever.. unless at a red light.. then obviously I do, but never at a stop sign, unless there are other cars that are suppose to go first, or unless there is a police man behind me.. Yeah, I would.. my friend and I have been driving along and said, "Hey, look at them! If I were a cop I would pull them over and give 'em a ticket!"

Ditto on that one I also NEVER come to a complete stop unless it becomes a hazzard to other drivers around me. I am VERY respectful of other drivers As far as OBVIOUS citations, it would be the turn signal issue. It's amazing how some drivers expect YOU to read their mind and know that they want to turn. Ticket them and if they refuse to use them, then bust them out so that they're not functional at all. This way they'll have an excuse to not use them As far an NON OBVIOUS citations, any uninsured automobile, haul it away & throw away the keys Been hit TWICE in the past ten years by uninsured drivers AND it cost me dearly when THEY were cited and at fault

Also agree with no turn signal. People who flick cigarette butts out of their window - annoys me to no end. I'd hit 'em up with a littering ticket every time.

- Unsafe lane changes - tailgating - driving too slow - speeding in residential areas, school zones and parking lots.

IF I ruled the State? I would raise the price of a speeding ticket up until it hurt financially, maybe $1000 for a car, about 3 or 4,000 for an 18 wheeler. Right now in the NYC area, traffic fine fees are like chump change, We pay almost as much as many fines simply to drive in and around the city for a day! Really, What impact does a $100 fine have as a deterrent ??? This amount is maybe A good meal out with drinks? I've got a hundred or two in my wallet on any given day just for incidentals, and I'm NOT a wealthy person.I'd instruct every officer to actively seek and pull over all speeding vehicles, but focus on the trucks, they kill the most people when they crash. No leniency, you did the crime, pay the fine, sorry, it is only your stupidity that got you into this situation. This would bring in a huge influx of cash to run the State. A volunteer tax if you want to call it so. Have good records kept for repeat, non paying offenders and impound their vehicle when found until the fines are paid in full. Right there on the spot, call a tow truck, pull the driver, take his keys and pull his car / truck off to the impound lot which will also have HUGE storage fees and towing fees.Speeds would drop, the death rate would drop and maybe even taxes would drop in a State like NJ that is basically a hallway between Major Northeastern cities. But to refocus, I'd go after trucks, come down hard and have crippling fines and unrelenting prosecution and enforcement. You want to drive here?? Obey the law. Actually it would be, come here and NOT obey the law, we could really use YOUR money!!Dave

If I could pull people over for anything, it would be these 3 things:1. Not having children in proper restraints2. Passengers that put their feet on the airbag. If you need to recline that bad, get in the back seats. If that thing goes off in the car with your feet on it it may snap you in half.3. Speeding. Some folks are in a hurry. Most just do it because they can.

Yellow and Red light runnersSpeeding in residential areas and school zonesCell phones and drivingTailgatingFailure to KEEP RIGHT!!!Personally, if you're away from the cities in light traffic or in the middle of nowhere the speed limit should be "drive within your limits" for ALL vehicles weather that be 90 or 160km/h. I personally hate the slower speed limits for trucks. Here, we have only ONE speed limit, except for steep downhill grades, the trucks can fly along with the cars at 110km/h! We generally don't have the problem of truckers driving 10-15km/h below everyone else!!!

1) Cell phone talking and texting I've hated (HATED) this one since the beginning. 2) Failure for slower traffic to yield right!!! And if the state has no such law, like Texas, CREATE ONE Dammit!! This is soooo frustrating.3) Failure to use seat belts. (My wife is one of these and it drives me nuts!!)4) Failure to use turn signals.5) Running red lights. I used to see this a lot more than I do now.6) Tailgating, though this one is tough in city traffic, especially when others take advantage of the extra distance and pull in.

I'll add one.. Tonight my car, Apollo, was almost crushed in the drivers side by a stupid teenager girl in a Chevrolet Aveo NOT paying attention backing out of there spot at Sonic.. talking to surrounding boys.. even with me LAYING on the horn.. they came within about 2 inches of my car.. I WOULD'VE GIVEN 'EM ONE THEN!!!!!! I even yelled at them.. "WATCH WHERE YOU'RE GOING!!!".. then flashed my brights behind them.. and honked again.. I wasn't a happy camper..

And people who cut off trucks- talk about stupid. How about...... people who don't give you "the wave" after you let them in?

It does work and it works well. This is the reason Smith Driving System works so well.

Not cool.
