Engine hum after new HU install

Post by orcus332 »

Hey all,I put a Dual XHD7714 head unit in the wife's 2005 vibe. The car has the "moons and tunes" package which basically means it has a stock amp and a subwoofer. Because of this, it was recommended on a vibe website to install the scosche SLC4 line converter so you could turn down the gains from the stock amp. The SLC4 has a ground wire. I incorporated it into the ground wire of the HU harness and Vibe harness (3 wires - one end cap).On the install, crutchfield sent me the wrong harness, that did not include the blue amplifier wire. The had me cut the factory harness  and connect that to the blue wire on the HU harness. Now, when driving the car, something will trigger the engine whine (such as a bump, turning on AC). The sound can only be heard in the front right speaker though. The volume knob does not affect the volume of the whine. The whine does get louder with higher RPM's and with the interior fan turned on high. The whine will go away if you mess with the HVAC control panel, or sometimes if a bump is hit. The whine does not occur if the radio is on, but the car is off.Any suggestions? I'm going to make sure my connections are good with the SLC4 in the front right speaker, but other than that, i'm about out of ideas

Well i ended up re-tightening the right front speaker wire at the SLC-4 (even though they didnt appear loose), and turning the gains down to about 25% (were at 95%). So far so good. I'm sure I'll be on here in a few days asking why the buzzing is back thought!
