This all occurred about a mile from where I live. WAY too close for my comfort, thank you. This is the first to hit this area and far and away the most damage the city has sustained.http://billingsgazette.com/new....html
My wife's Matrix has a little bit of hail damage. Other than that and a little bit of damage to our plants, everything of ours escaped unscathed. Probably only because the tornado was as close as it was. Only about 3 miles away, my parents weren't so lucky. Major damage to their roof, my Dad's truck, a camp trailer, their canoe... Only one residence was hit by the tornado. The rest of the damage was commercial. One of the guys, the owner of the local Kawasaki dealer, is a friend and one awesome business man. I know this has hurt him pretty badly, but I think he has the same outlook that a lot of people have here. It could have been SOOO much worse! No deaths, only a couple of injuries and the only ones reported were from the hail, not the tornado. Incredibly strange for this magnitude of storm but a real testament to how well Yellowstone County's warning system works, I should say. I really wish I had the intestinal fortitude to have grabbed one of my cameras and taken a photo or two of the tornado outside of our window but instead, I just made sure my wife, son and dogs were safe and then set about watching to make sure it didn't move closer and that we were in a sound enough location. Thankfully, that proved to be true.
Scary, Man!! And I know. We live in tornado alley too, but fortunately for us, they often skirt around us. We are up on a hill... mountain they call it here, but from Pa, I know better. It's a hill. I'm told it's been well over 20yrs since anything like that came around our neighborhood, but I still worry every time we have high winds or hail around here too, thinking about the damage, loss of life and property that we may never get back. It took me 40 yrs to have a home of my own. I wouldn't want to lose it to a freak of weather, or any reason really.Glad you were a survivor and escaped the major portion of the damage. Losing one's home, or life, would SUCK, BIG TIME!!!

It was extremely surreal.

It was just released today that there was a homeless man who was living in the path of the tornado. He survived by hugging a tree and only ended up with scratches and bruises. He was quoted as saying "Hey, man. It could have been worse". That's the general attitude around. Everyone saying "It could have been worse". Hurricanes are DEFINITELY not my thing. Do stay safe, OK? Especially with the little one now!

From the programming I've seen on the scifi channel, it's global warming causing major climate change that will bring the end of days in 2012 because of the Mayan calendar as predicted by Nostradamus. And there will be giant crocodiles, spiders, minotaurs, basilisks, sharks the size of aircraft carriers, flying pirhana, and brain sucking energy aliens from another galaxy. It could have been worse, and it will beseriously though, glad you're ok. Hope there's no more for another 52 years.
