Auto slipping?

Post by KSNeptune »

Turning out of a parking lot today I gunned the engine to get quickly up to speed with the oncomming traffic. As I curved sharply into my lane the transmission acted as if I'd shifted into nuetral with my foot on the gas. The engine raced almost to redline before finding a gear again and getting back to moving the car. This only lasted a few seconds, but it seemed like slow motion as I checked the shift lever (it was still in Drive), got off the gas, and had time to wonder if my tranny had just failed. The Vibe drove fine after that. It's never happened before. I'm wondering if the centrifical cornering force overpowered the tranmissions desire to get into a gear.Anyone else had a similar experience? This is my first car with an Auto tranny. Please tell me this isn't how they are supposeed to work.KSNeptune
