Good day all...my 05 GT has 121K miles on the original brakes. I rotate the tires and inspect the brakes every 10K and I've noticed that the rears have been wearing faster than the fronts. The front pads have about half (!) thickness left but the rears have worn down to the wear indicator--beginning to make some noise. Has anyone seen this? The braking action seems fine. 'Nother question: the front rotors should just pull off...right? Maybe with the help of a BFH?Cheers--Steve
You've probably already finished your brake replacement, but yes a BFH will usually knock the front rotors loose. I just did mine last weekend and was surprised that there wasn't the typical Toyota threaded hole between the lug studs. That makes rotor removal easy. I also didn't know that the GT had rear disc until I went to buy front pads and rotors. I would love to put rear disc on my standard 05.
Yes, I've had problems with my Rears too. I've been getting only about 20K out of them, the outboard pads ware down to nothing. After having the dealer look at them twice and tell me noting is wrong with them and that they cleaned and lubed the slides I finally took them apart myself. The slides were rusted and I mean badly, see the pic. I took the slides back to the dealer and asked them if this looked like nothing was wrong. Long story short they fired their break tech and gave me a new set of slides.I'd tell you to check, clean, and lube the slides.
